8110118 — Jiwa Krungu

Jiwa Krungu brings field recordings and extended electronic forms into a coherent debut, sustaining its ideas across seven substantial pieces.

Released on 23 July 2026, Jiwa Krungu is the debut studio album of Jakarta-based 8110118. The artist relates its title, translated as 'audible soul', to Soedjojono's idea of making an artist's inner life visible. The stated concerns include information overload and the demands of life in Jakarta.

The album's extended forms work well. Embong opens the sequence, while Leang-Leang, near its centre, approaches ten minutes without losing its sense of purpose. The time given to the material supports the composition, and the record remains cohesive across these longer stretches.

Field recordings form part of that coherence. 8110118 supplies the recordings on the first six tracks, and they work successfully with the composed material. The relationship between those elements gives the album a consistent basis without requiring its meaning to be reduced to the artist's accompanying statement.

The closing V4-4 draws on a Louis Sarno recording supplied by the Pitt Rivers Museum, originally used in the Century of Sounds project. Despite that different provenance, it integrates well with the preceding tracks. Jiwa Krungu succeeds as a complete composition, bringing its varied sources into a satisfying whole.
